Hi Nolan,

Nolan, How are you doing? It’s the weekend. Are you doing anything in particular? I just came back from the Pet Store. I wanted to look at all the tropical fish but they did not have too much of a selection. So, are you into collecting anything or have any nice hobbies (things you like to do). I used to collect hockey cards and started to listen to music on the radio.

I believe it was the first year or maybe when I was 12, but that’s when cd’s came out that you could buy at the music store. I remember getting my first radio with a cd player. Cd’s where expensive at the store like over $20.00. So, I started with a collection. I believe by the time I was like 17, I had over 350 Cd’s in total.

I think when I was 11 years old (just like you), It was the first time I had my own bedroom. I always used to share my bedroom with my younger brother with bunk beds. Do you have your own bedroom? When I had my own bedroom, it was great. I could put up posters on the wall of my favourite hockey and baseball teams. Is there anything on your walls? I could listen to my music anytime. I never had my own T.V. in the bedroom but what I did eventually get was my own computer. Do you have a T.V. or computer in your bedroom?

At 11 years old, there was more things you would like to buy at the store. So, that is where I started to try and earn some money for myself with doing more work. That is where I had a newspaper route. I had about 30 customers, but I used to walk very far. It was after school delivering the newspapers, so it took me about an hour long every day.

The only day that I had off was Sunday, since there was no newspaper for that day. But, on Saturday it was first thing in the morning at 9:00A.M. Saturday was the worst day, the newspapers were very heavy to carry as they had store flyers. Most days, I could carry all the newspapers and walk to deliver them as their was only 1 bundle.

But on Saturday, there was like 3-4 big heavy bundles. So, what I had to do, was ride my bicycle instead and put a bundle of newspapers on my handle bars and drop that bundle off further ahead at the next houses down the street. It took my twice as long on Saturday to deliver the newspapers.

Nolan, I am not sure if your sister told you, but I will be writing you a letter on all the days that have a “1” in it (since you are 11). So, the next day you will get a letter will be on February 11th and then on February 21st.

Also, please let Ciara know, that she will receive letters on the days that have a “9” in it. So that’s today (February 9). Let Ciara know, that her letter will be written shortly. (near 8:00 P.M.)

Perhaps, you or Ciara may be waiting for the letters to come on those days, but I will try my best not make them too late in the day. I should have the letters just after when you come home from school. If the day is on a weekend, then I will try and make it sooner.

Hi Ciara,

It is February. You know what that means? Is their a special day for Ciara? It must be Valentine’s Day where Ciara writes Valentine’s Day cards to people or when their are cinnamon hearts in the stores. I’m I being silly? Silly, Dad! Yes, I am. Very much so.

Ciara, it’s your Birthday! Happy Birthday! A big 9 years old today. Fantastic, I have been thinking about you a lot. (Nolan also) You must be getting tall, do your shoes fit anymore or have to goto the mall and buy a pair every month since your growing so fast? Your Mom must love shopping for shoes, when she was a teenager she had a closet full of shoes on every shelf. You name it, she had any kind of shoes. Dress shoes, sandals, winter boots, running shoes, flip flops, high heels, and even her hamburger black dress shoes. (which where stinky), lol.

Ciara, I am so happy for you, are you going to the restaurant tonight perhaps to celebrate your birthday? What is your favourite restaurant? I just came back from a restaurant that gave me a free medium french fry. (The one where your Mom and I first met) . Ciara, I hope that you receive some nice birthday presents today. Just remember those birthday presents don’t have to be in a box all wrapped with a fancy bow on it. But something can be appreciated and is thoughtful.

I’ve been wanting to write you a nice letter for sometime (Nolan too). It shouldn’t just be on special days of the year, because every day is special to us. I just hope that you are doing fine all the time. I hope that you are learning in all your school subjects and doing good. I wish I could teach you things and know what you are learning.

Do you know the first thing that your Mom spent time and taught me to learn? Was when she was 17, she taught me how to use the drive thru cashier. She showed me where all the buttons where for the food and drinks and I had to press the buttons on the computer screen very quickly when a customer order. The most popular button was the “EVM” button. Which was the combo button. I did a pretty good job at it as your mother was beside me. I took as many orders as I could, until a customer came and order their hamburgers that were specially order. Like if the person didn’t want no onions, extra pickles, or only ketchup and cheese. I couldn’t press the buttons that fast and your mother had to take the order. She had to ask the customer again, could you repeat order now. Even though, there was not a “RON” button, she still took the order right. It was actually better for those special orders to happen, because I spent an extra value minute with her. All because of her teaching me a “EVM” button, for a perfect combo or getting an extra minute with your Mom.

I actually had a poem I wrote for you, but I knew it had to make changes to it in someway, so I will give you a few sentences from it.

Somewhere there is a prettiest daughter,
Pure like a pond of sparkling water,
Who is like a soft and shining unicorn,
Who is happy, as nine years ago she was born.

Ciara is lovely like a rainbow,
Who has strength with brown hair that glows,
Maybe there is a big red heart on her bedroom door,
Inside, it seems like there’s a nice waterfall that pours.

A musical song is carried through the halls,
Awakening the flowers with with stems so tall,
People are singing “Happy Birthday to you”,
As you wish for something that will come true.

Ciara, I went to the library and I took out some books. I am going to read them as they are learning books for your age.

When I was nine years old, it was the first time I took out books and did a school project. I did a project on camels and rabbits. I found out that some camels have 1 or 2 humps or even no humps. With the rabbits, I think there was many kinds of rabbits, but what I learned was each type of rabbit’s fur is made for where they live.

Ciara, I will write you letter another day. Since you are 9 years old, I will always write you on the days that have “9” in it. So, next letter will be on February 9th (tomorrow), then February 19th and finally on February 29th.

Ciara, did you learn yet only in the month of February sometimes there is 28 days or 29 days in that year? So, for 2019, there is only 28 days. We just have to wait till March to use the 29th, but in March it will be March 9, 19, and 29th. Maybe, can you write me a letter instead since there is not a February 29th this year.

Ciara, have a lovely night and happy birthday again. Please tell Nolan, I will write him a letter too. I will write him a letter for tomorrow. Nolan is 11 years old, so he will get a new letter whenever there is a “1” in the date. So, February 11th, February 21st, and February 31st. Ciara, are you telling me that I’m silly again? Of course, February never has 31 days.

Hi Nolan, Ciara, Dylan:

Another year is coming to an end, and that year 2019 is approaching very fast.  As children, every year seems like a long time, and one day it will be actually be 2030 eventually.  The young years in all your lives play a significant role in who you will be in the future.  I was not physically available to be in each present day of your every day lives, whether it was watching you catch your first baseball in a real size mitt, hitting the ball in the outfield and getting a single, receiving an award at school for your achievements, your first field trip as a class, meeting your new friends, having a crush on another classmate, meeting your teachers as they describe what a wonderful person you each are, or even put a bandage on your bruise knee, your first hair style cut, meeting any of your pets if you have any, visiting your church were you pray, or every night or morning when you awoke or fell asleep, I could not give you hug or kiss, or even a way that showed on how much I am proud when you each drift away to sleep and dream of the many blessings each one of you each have.

Sometimes Christmas is about Santa Claus bringing many gifts under the Christmas tree.  Where ever you look at the Christmas tree today or even after the New Year, that tree will be put back in the box and it will be Christmas again till a whole new year.  Each one of you had vision the angel on top, the colourful lights across the tree or the branches that spread out to reach your face for the beauty of the Christmas tree.

Just remember even though that Christmas tree will be put away next week, each day when you are going to school or playing outside, I was with you from your mother’s love each day to not only celebrate this Christmas day occasion, but in every moment when you laughed and smiled throughout the year, or when you had a cough and running nose and stayed home from school.

Hi Nolan, Ciara, Dylan:

Well hello kids, how is it going?  Are you ready for Christmas as it’s almost here!  Have you seen Santa in the mall yet?  Did you sit on his lap, Nolan and Ciara your too big now.  Anyway, do you have many Christmas decorations around your house?  Hanging your stockings with your name on each one.  So Nolan, anything in particular that you want for Christmas?  A new hockey stick if you play hockey outside or maybe a musical instrument?  At 11 years old, I was more into video games than actually having toys.  Ciara, our little girl, with big smiles who is very cheerful who perhaps has red cheeks like Santa Claus.  Many toys that have come out, are toys I’ve seen in the flyers are the same as when you were like 4 years old still.  Any toy that you want this year?  Do you go shopping with the family?  Your mom loves clothes, and your probably now at the age were you like matching outfits with designer brands.  Dylan, you must be in the terrible two stage (hopefully not).  I just know that you are a bundle of you for the whole family.  Well, I will indeed write everyone another letter before Christmas, and I hope that your all doing well.

Hi! How are you? Are you having fun lately? What have you been doing? Going shopping at the stores? Do you grocery shop, or visit the department stores? All the Christmas decorations will be out on display.

So, are you in grade 2? (I could be wrong). I think when I was in grade 2, it was the first time a computer was in our classroom. Over 30 years ago, computers were expensive and not all schools had them. So, what subjects in school do you like? Do you have a pencil case at school, with pencils, markers and colour pencils? I think I didn’t start using a pen I was in Nolan’s grade. Have you started to write letters from the alphabet out now? Or still printing them out?

If you are in grade 2, I think that was the best year to learn new things. Like I think I had flashcards and learnt how to multiply, could find any word in the dictionary since I could spell it out, and read an actual small novel book from the library.

Do you have a library in your school? Once a week, our class would go to the library, and take out a book. Sometimes near Christmas, the school had a new book sale, and Meme would buy me some books. Well, I hope you are doing great, and have a lovely day.

Nolan,

Hi Nolan. It has been over a month, since I have written to you. Most of the times each day when I go on the computer, I tell myself I should write you and Ciara a letter. I guess, I get discourage because I probably want to do a long letter, but I guess even a paragraph is important enough. Like I said before, I am sorry if you look sometimes and there is not a new letter. I have to write down a list of topics so when I want to write you a letter, I can easily write about that topic.

So, I bet you can’t wait till tomorrow. It’s your big day. I hope you a happy birthday. The big 11 years old. I believe you are in grade 5, but I could be wrong. Are you having a birthday party or perhaps you had it already this weekend? Or maybe this weekend coming up? As a 11 year old boy, what do you like to do other than school work? Do you have any interests? When I was 11 years old, I begun to like to draw maps. I would find a country on the globe, and then make a big picture of that country. (Without tracing). Do you know how many countries there are in the world? Every country usually has a flag to their country. Do you know all the provinces in Canada? Are you learning about the capital cities? In grade 5, I think I recognized that what subjects of school I liked or disliked? Each day, I really liked gym, geography, math, French, but never did like art class or even science for some reason. We all have are preferences I guess. I forgot about English class, that was fun as you would read a book or have a spelling quiz.

What is your favourite subjects in school? Just keep doing well in school and do your homework each night. I hope you have a nice teacher.

Hi Nolan, Ciara, Dylan:

I am not sure that these stories (are read to you each night), which they 100% should since a father should be able to read their children a story and do a lot of nice things with them.  I am not sure, but I might need a break in the stories and make time for something else that you would like better, like me and you going to the mall, visiting your school, eating at a fast-food restaurant, just playing with you and giving a hug and kiss. And just not a webpage, but me reading to you anytime that you want.

I just wanted to write to say goodnight to you three.  And I hope that you have a fun day tomorrow.
